Why Nobody Can Match the iPad?s Price

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPad last January, the biggest surprise wasn’t the actual product. (Many shrugged and called the iPad a “bigger iPhone.”) It was the price: Just $500. Nobody expected that number, perhaps because Apple has traditionally aimed at the high end of the mobile computer market with MacBooks marked $1,000 and up. And perhaps [...]

13 Things to Consider Before Buying a Digital Media Storage System

In today’s connected home we take pictures digitally, listen to digital audio on our MP3 players, and download and watch digital movies on our HD TV?s.  All of these digital media files take up a copious amount of space and the growth of these files is outpacing our ability to store and protect them.  Thankfully, [...]

Nissan ESFLOW pictured in the flesh ahead of Geneva unveil

Rendery concept images not doing enough to pique your interest in the future-Z concept ESFLOW from Nissan? Maybe you'd be into some honest to gosh pictures of the real thing sitting pretty on a white-walled photo stage, prepping for its glamour shoot. All Cars Electric has a suite of photos of the inside, highlighting its sweeping lines and decidedly fanciful interior. The car is said to manage the 0 - 60 sprint in under five seconds while also delivering 150 miles of range from its Li-ion battery pack, helped by a lightweight composite body and aluminum chassis. Whether the car ever hits production remains to be seen, but there's no doubt it's looking good already.

Twitter suspends Twidroyd and other UberMedia Twitter clients [updated]

Twidroyd

If you've noticed you're no longer able to access Twitter using Twidroyd, don't feel like you're the only one. Twitter has posted and fired off emails stating that Twidroyd (and ÜberTwitter for BlackBerry) has been suspended from Twitter use. Anyone using the app in the mean time is suggested to utilize one of the various many other Twitter applications available. While Twitter did not directly state the reason instead opting to inform it was due to violation of Twitter policies. We'll keep you all updated as we find out more info. [Twitter] Thanks, everyone who sent this in!

Update: Twitter got in touch with TechCrunch and had quite the response.  The meat of the situation is:

"Today we suspended several applications, including UberTwitter, twidroyd and UberCurrent, which have violated Twitter policies and trademarks in a variety of ways. These violations include, but aren’t limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users’ Tweets in order to make money."

Yowsa.  We've reached out to UberMedia (Twidroyd's parent company) and will be sure to keep you up to date with any further news.  [TechCrunch]

Twitter suspends UberTwitter and Twidroyd for 'violating' its policies (update: apps are fixed, should be live soon)

Without elaborating, Twitter has just posted a help document titled "I'm Having Problems Logging In to UberTwitter or twidroyd" that gives little hope for an immediate fix: turns out the company has outright suspended both apps -- among the most popular Twitter apps for the BlackBerry / iPhone and Android platforms, respectively -- for "violating [its] policies." They go on to say that they suspend "hundreds" of apps on a daily basis for policy violations, but decided to call out these two in particular because of the high number of users potentially affected. Considering the popularity factor, we imagine this'll be solved one way or another before too long -- but in the meantime, you might want to fall back to the official apps for all three platforms.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Update: We've received a statement on the issue from Twitter, which says that the violations here "include, but aren't limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users' Tweets in order to make money." Follow the break for the full text.

Update 2: Pocket-lint says that Echofon is also suspended. Things are getting pretty serious here.

Update 3: UberMedia -- which owns UberTwitter, Twidroyd, and Echofon -- has said that it has "completed the changes, and new apps are currently being posted to their respective stores." They've apparently gotten an assurance from Twitter that the apps will be flipped back on as soon as the changes are live. Oh, also: UberTwitter will become UberSocial, which must be the "trademark infringement" Twitter was referring to.

Is Texting While Giving Birth the Way Nature Intended? [Weird Science]

As someone sans womb, I'm not terribly qualified to opine, but my guess would be that a text message is the last thing you want to deal with while giving birth. Not so! At least, according to some doctors. More »

CE-Oh no he didn't!: INQ chief says Android is too geeky for 'pretty girls'

Take one dose of improper generalization, mix it in with a heaping of condescension, and then add a pinch of good old sexism. What do you get? This quote, coming from Frank Meehan, CEO of the Android handset-making INQ:
"If you go to a nightclub in any city in the world, the pretty girl has an iPhone or a BlackBerry. She doesn't have an Android phone. She has no emotional attachment to an Android phone. It's too complicated. It's a geek device, it's all wrong."
Now, before you go emailing him photos of the Android tattoo girl, there is undeniably some smidgen of truth to the man's words. Android is a geek's dream ecosystem and it's not necessarily the most accessible platform in the world, but to completely write it off for the nightclub-going lady demographic doesn't strike us -- or Justin Timberlake, or Chad Ochocinco -- as the most astute idea in the world.

[Thanks, AC]

A Small Car is a frustrating 3D Flash Time-Waster

asmallcar
It's not often that I see 3D attempted in Flash, and to be honest, after playing A Small Car I can see why.

It's not that it's not a fun game - otherwise I wouldn't mention it as a potential Time Waster. It's just very frustrating. Your job is to steer a car over a complex course, hanging in mid-air, to the checkered "landing zone" at the end of each level. You sometimes need to jump, too - so that means you can't always drive super-slow. The tracks are quite short, and it's all keyboard driven -- you don't need to use the mouse for anything.

As an experiment in 3D Flash content, it is quite impressive. The graphics are very blocky, but the motion is smooth. You can even change cameras by pressing C if you want to see what the track looks like from the driver's seat.

It's a fun game, but only if you've got plenty of patience.

New Google navigation bar rolling out, social features on the way?

Google has begun rolling out a new version of its cross-site navigation bar. Google's search tools still get top billing, with Gmail sliding in just before the more menu -- which is where you'll have to go to find your Reader link. Elements have a bit more padding now as well, which will make them more finger-friendly on your Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet (or other touchscreen device). Another change is that your name is now displayed on the right side when you're signed in, as opposed to your email address. To see your associated accounts or switch profiles, just click your name.

TechCrunch speculates that the redesign could signal the arrival of Google +1, the "social layer" which has been in the works since last year. It's been rumored that +1 would be a sort of Facebook competitor from Google -- who already owns one of those in Orkut. Of course, the new navbar could also just be Google trying to stick to its minimalist modus operandi.
