How Long It Takes Hackers to Crack Your Password [Passwords]

BusinessWeek says a 6 character password (just letters) can be cracked in just 10 minutes while a 9 character password complete with letters, uppercase, numbers and symbols will take 44,530 years to crack. Take a look at the image to see other comparisons, the first column describes your password, the other columns show you how long the hackers need to hack your password. Hey, Salesforce, Using Will.i.am In An Ad Doesn?t Automatically Make You Cool

Well, Salesforce just debuted its Super Bowl Chatter ads (we've embedded the ads below), which were a little disappointing. The ads featured Will.i.am and the rest of the Black Eyes Peas in a cartoon promoting the CRM giant's 'Facebook for the enterprise.' The ads, which aired during the halftime show, include what appears to be computer-generated cartoon versions of Will.i.am (he actually co-produced the ad) and his bandmates, zooming around, and talking about how Chatter helps them communicate more efficiently. To be honest, I find the commercials a little confusing and too quick. And it's hard to imagine that a technology company would spend millions for two ads that seemed to be average at best.

BlackBerry OS 6 beta available to download and try

Though it's currently only available for three of its devices, RIM has posted a beta download of BlackBerry OS 6. If you own a BlackBery Bold 9700, Bold 9780, or Curve 3G 9300 and you happen to be a T-Mobile customer, head on over to the Beta Zone and download OS 6 for your device if you'd like to try it out.

Sure, the 9780 already ships with OS6, but the beta version will give you a glimpse of new features and tweaks that weren't baked-in from day one.

Facebook to enable site-wide HTTPS and name-that-face social authentication

Tomorrow, as part of Data Privacy Day, Facebook will enable the option for site-wide HTTPS. Everything, from sending messages to stalking your friends' profiles will be encrypted, which should come as a great relief if you regularly use Facebook from public, unencrypted Wi-Fi networks. To enable it (tomorrow!), navigate to Account Settings and scroll down to Account security.

Facebook will also step up its policing of suspicious activity by using an exciting new form of CAPTCHA called "social authentication." If Facebook detects something odd with your account -- such as a login from two geographically disparate locations -- you will be asked to identify some of your friends. The idea is that hackers might have worked out your password, but they probably don't know what your friends look like. Unless you're being hacked by one of your friends, of course...

Looking forward, Facebook hopes to enable HTTPS by default, but no exact timeline is given. Incidentally, if you want to browse the entire Web while secured by HTTPS, check out our secure surfing guide.
